Kawasaki working on an electric Ninja 300, patents leak

A set of leaked patent images have an interesting update to be shared. Seems like Team Green is working on a battery operated sportsbike, which could soon be showcased at one of the auto shows on international soil. These leaked images are hinting at an electric version of the Kawasaki Ninja 300 in development.

The overall styling of the motorcycle reveals that this bike is a Ninja 300. The headlamps, alloy wheels, rear profile, and width of the bike gives away the fact that this is either a Ninja 300 or the Ninja 250. But, there won’t be a 250-300cc motor plonked here. Instead, a new electric motor will perform duties.

The motor will be mounted using a hinge, making it easy for the manufacturer to plonk it in. This battery will then feed power to the gearbox & the conventional chain drive. There will also be a battery tray below, for better balance & weight management.

There are no figures known at the moment, or power & torque figures, but this sure is an interesting development.

Currently, the Ninja 300 on sale here in India is powered by a 296cc, parallel-twin cylinder engine that produces 38.5 BHP of power along with 27 Nm of torque.

Will such an electric model come to India? We don’t know. But if it does, it will be way too expensive considering the conventional petrol powered model is fairly overpriced.
