Maruti Suzuki is considering the launch of the next-generation Swift Sport for India. This car will come with a way more powerful engine and suspension improvements. This version has 2 global models, but never been launched in India.
The next-gen Swift has been codenamed as YSD.
Looking at the Abarth from Fiat and the GTI from Volkswagen, the Indian market is slowly moving towards performance and powerful hatchbacks. This new Sport model for the Swift will surely help its image as the car has been there in the market for long and it needs a punchy version too.
This new car will be designed with an aggressive stance compared to the new Swift images which were seen earlier this year. There will be ample cosmetic upgrades like the big wheels, a twin exhaust and the front end with the open maws along with a black rear diffuser.
Powering this car would be a 140 BHP, K14C, 1.4-liter, Boosterjet engine. There will be a 1.0-liter version of the same as well. Maruti plans to build this engine at its Manesar plant. The 1.0-liter will be a three-cylinder engine and the 1.4-liter will be a 4-cylinder engine. The car will get a stiffer chassis with a sportier and harder suspension setup with dampers. This would be required to keep that power down in place. The low compression ratio in the engine will also enhance a higher boost pressure.
The car will be launched globally in 2017. Due to its lightweight design it will be an extremely quick car. It may also share the same platform as the Baleno.
