Aprilia SR 150 & Piaggio Vespa 150 will use same engine

Piaggio group revealed the Aprilia SR 150 scooter for the Indian market last week at the Auto Expo. The brand will locally produce this premium scooter in India and is expected to go on sale by August 2016.

The SR 150 will be manufactured at Piaggio’s Baramati plant. This will be the first Aprilia model to be ever built in India.

It is now learnt that the Aprilia SR 150 will make use of the same engine which is plonked in the Piaggio Vespa 150. This 150cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, 4-stroke, carburettor fed, 3-valve petrol unit produces 11.5 BHP of power & 11.47 Nm of torque.

Pricing for the SR 150 will be very close to Rs. 1 lakh (on-road).

Piaggio is trying to attract the younger audience with this model. The bike does look sporty and those who are looking to have the convenience of a scooter without the plain Jane looks, this might click well.
