The Volkswagen Beetle was first launched in India in 2009, but was later discontinued due to negligible sales figures.
Now, the German brand is looking at bringing it back to India as there is better acceptance of luxury hatchbacks in the country. The latest generation Beetle has been spotted testing on the Indian soil and Volkswagen has already commented that it will be launched towards the end of 2015.
The unit which Volkswagen imported for homologation was powered by a 1.4L TSI petrol unit which also powers the Jetta sedan. There’s no signs of a diesel-powered Beetle yet, but the older generation model did have an oil burner under the hood.
Although the silhouette of the new Beetle is similar to the outgoing models, the new version has grown in size and gets reworked body panels. It is longer & wider offering more room inside the car.
he new Beetle will also be brought to India via the CBU route & pricing is expected to be in the range of Rs. 30 lakh.
Volkswagen is struggling to gain market share in the Indian market with sales figures across all models not clicking the way the brand might have imagined.
