Tata Raptor project on hold, Sumo facelift incoming

Reports on the internet suggest that Tata Motors has put plans of the new Raptor project on hold, and is currently working on a facelift version of the dated Sumo this year.

The Tata Sumo is an arch rival for the Mahindra Bolero which will be getting an all-new model this year. However, Tata thinks that the old & dated Sumo in a facelift avatar could still have some fight left within.

Reports mention that the new Sumo facelift will be radical to look at, and not as boxy & boring as the current model. Interiors will take design cues from the Zest & Bolt which have been appreciated in the market. On the outside, it will also feature an all new front fascia, which would be in sync with the company’s latest line-up.

Expect a diesel-only version of the Sumo facelift to be revealed later in 2015.

With indefinite hold currently on the Raptor project, we doubt that the new Sumo would hit the streets before 2020. Mahindra would be surely happy with this news as the Bolero will easily rake in numbers with little competition from the local rival.
